Studying in JLI was really fun! Teachers are good and warm-hearted care about students sincerely. Every teacher has their own teaching method and they teach with their character and personality. That makes studying very interesting. Study program is also well-balanced and logical. Location is good, easy to go from anywhere. Maruyama is almost in the center of Sapporo but still quiet area, which I like. JLI gives good chance to get good experience in Sapporo and improve japanese language skill.
Located in Maruyama, JLI is a small but cosy school, also attended by Japanese locals training to become teachers. School is always bustling with life and activity. There are also events and school activities almost every month and occasional festivals in town. There is a supermarket, shopping mall and the train station conveniently located nearby. Town is also just 20mins walk away. My one-year course was very fun, filled with several memorable events.
I enjoyed my time at JLI very much. However, it would have been improved if more time had been spent on conversation and actually using what I studied in real-life situations.
Good: - Generally nice, kind and skilled teachers. - The variation in subjects and way of teaching from one class to another was nice. - The Minna No Nihongo system is good Not so good: - I tried different classes with different number of students. Around 7-8 students in a class is fine, more than 10 was too much. Individual talk is important I think and there is not enough time for this if there are too many students. - No hot coffee - it would be nice to have a hot coffee vending machine ^_^
Hi! This is Lambert from Taiwan. I studied at JLI for short-term course on Dec, 2013. Before I went to Sapporo, I've contacted with school by myself. School staff were nice and answer my questions promptly and patiently. My class is not big, only 14 people, but it's quite good for pair practicing. Teachers use simple sentence to explain content of lesson. Sometimes, students were divided into several pairs for conversation practicing. If there's something we don't understand well, teachers will assist us by side. It's quite good for us to improve our ability of Japanese in each parts For my personal, I think my listening was improved during this period. The environment is good, not too far from subway station-Maruyama Park. Fresh air and beautiful scenes of nature around this area. Classmates were coming from different countries. I can chat with them not only in Japanese, but also English. Good opportunity for practicing second foreign language. It's a lot of fun in learning Japanese at JLI. Hokkaido is a nice place to stay and learn. Especially appropriate for people who would like to approach natural environment. Although the weather is cold in winter, but people are always warm in here. Fresh air, beautiful nature, delicious food, and convenient traffic system in downtown. Most important, I believe you will meet a lot of nice people here. Sharing from Lambert --- JLI short-term course student on Dec. 2013
I have attended the JLI language school 3 times for 5 weeks each time. I profited very much, and if I have another opportunity, I will do it again.
