This course is designed as an introduction to the fundamental reading and writing skills used in the English language. It provides students with the opportunity to learn English through a variety of activities, writing exercises, and reading practices. The student will be able to read and write at a basic skill level in English.
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
• Know the definition of sentence, fragment, and question and required elements.
• Know the appropriate use of basic punctuation marks
• Be able to identify sentences, questions, subjects, verbs, objects, and subject complements.
• Know the correct usage of capital letters.
• Understand the meaning of a story through listening and reading
• Use new vocabulary words
• Identify key details in a story
• Be able to summarize a story
• Discuss related topics from a story
• Produce sentences based on information from a story
