BALEAP - British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes

BALEAP supports the professional development of those involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in EAP through its Accreditation Scheme, Professional Issues Meetings (PIMs) and biennial conference and through the work of its sub-committees and working parties.

BALEAP runs an accreditation scheme designed to establish and sustain the standard required of specialist courses in English for Academic Purposes. The label ‘BALEAP accredited’ is a recognised sign of quality for students looking for EAP programmes to help them pursue their studies effectively and for teachers looking for work on such programmes.

Assessment visits are extensive and rigorous but also supportive and formative. BALEAP member institutions seeking accreditation are entitled to a free visit from an Accreditation Scheme assessor to help them prepare for the accreditation process.

Institutions are inspected every four years by two assessors, who submit a detailed report to the BALEAP Accreditation Scheme (BAS) committee, which makes the final decision.
